No. 9 Moorpark (3-1) at No. 2 Canyons (5-0)

Cougar Stadium, Santa Clarita, 7 p.m.

LAST WEEK: Santa Ana 43, Los Angeles Harbor 36; Fullerton 16, Moorpark 13

SERIES HISTORY: Canyons leads, 13-4, since 1972

GAME FACTS: The showdown perhaps comes for Moorpark in its very first Northern Conference game. Canyons is ranked No. 2 and Moorpark is No. 21 in this week’s JC Gridwire national poll. Canyons leads the state in scoring offense (50.4 ppg), all-purpose yardage (656.0 ypg), rushing offense (284.8) and is second in sacks (31.0). Canyons has only been challenged by Fullerton, which barely defeated Moorpark on Sept. 20. Canyons is led by two of the state’s top players, RB Fred Winborn (50 att., 465 yards, 4 TDs) and WR Hayo Carpenter (34 rec., 613 yards, 8 TDs). Winborn leads the South in rushing yards per game and Carpenter leads the South in all-purpose yardage. Cougars also lead the region in punting and sacks. It looks like freshman Joey Frias (38-of-64 passing 538 yards, 8 TDs) might have taken the QB job from sophomore Brad McClellan (34-of-66 passing, 585 yards, 5 TDs). Moorpark hopes it is healed coming off its bye week. RB Dan Mosier (59 att., 394 yard, 5 TDs), who lead the region in rushing and touchdowns when he was hurt against Fullerton, is expected back. QB Donald Senegal (57-of-96 passing, 739 yards, 7 TDs, 1 int.) has been a playmaker, getting the ball to WR Mark Urbina (23 rec., 320 yards, 2 TDs). The Raiders have only turned the ball over a region-best four times.
