Well, this was a fun game to watch. I called this game online as well, and this was a good way to start things up.
Now the Yankees got a win they needed. You don’t want to be swept at home by a sub-500 team like the Orioles right before a big series with the Angels. They did everything right today. They got all sorts of offense. Sure, they hit three home runs, but they weren’t dependent on it. They had Nady getting big hits and little bloop singles from Giambi and Christian had a big pinch-hit single. So they were great all-around today on offense.
Now Joba, was amazing. Six innings and one earned run is pretty good. This is his second really great start. He didn’t walk a batter today, he was ahead in counts was able to get all his pitches working. This is why I am now convinced that he will be one of the great starters in the game. He was only throwing 92-93, but when he wanted to, he was able to dial it up to 98 MPH. Most importantly, first and second in the second inning with nobody out, he buckled down, got a strike out, gave up a single to score a run, but then got Huff and Mora out.
Now it’s being reported (YES actually announced it’s now official) that the Yankees have acquired Ivan Rodriguez (yes, that’s Pudge) for Kyle Farnsworth. I agree that the Yankees need a catcher, because Molina is a gaping hole in the offense, and Pudge hit great for average. I don’t understand trading Farnsworth. Maybe the Boston outing on Friday night (1/3 of an inning, 2 H) put some doubt into Yankee management’s head on whether he could be reliable in October, but I thought that Farnsworth was settling into New York and to Giradi’s management. I’m not shocked, but I am surprised. Although Pudge is certainly someone who will be a good fit. Good trade for the Tigers since they can’t get an out from the bullpen.
This was a fun game to do. I do some High School football and basketball games for my (former) high school radio station and I did a few softball games for them in 2007. But I’ve never done something like this or have a stats so readily available.
High School stats are a b-- to find.
