The Red Sox dropped their seventh strait road game today when they were swept by the Oakland Athletics. As with the Celtics, no one seems to know why the Sox cannot win away from Boston
The Sox swept their latest home stand seven-zero. Their record at Fenway is 21-5, best in the Majors. Once they leave home however they are merely 10-17. Their win percentage at home is 0.8. However, at away games, its only 0.37.
Both the offense and pitching for the Red Sox have floundered at away games. Red Sox Pitchers have given up 132 runs, and have an era of 4.90 at road games. At home, they have only given up only 100 runs and have an ERA of 3.5.
At Fenway, Red Sox hitters had 260 hits. They have knocked in 144 of their 156 scored runs, have been walked 112 and struck out 140 times. The Sox have a team batting Average of .303.
Away, The Sox have 255 hits and have scored only 112 runs. They only hit 109 rbis, struck out 181 times and only walked 73 times. Their batting average away from Fenway is only .275.
Dustin Pedroia leads the Red Sox in road game hits, with 30. Kevin Youkilis and Manny Ramirez both have 6 home runs, and Daisuke Matsuzaka has the most road wins with 3.
The Sox now have established a trend of dipping in and out of first place in the American League East with the Tampa Bay Rays depending on whether the Sox are on a homestand or road trip. They came into the Oakland series with 2.5 games on the Rays. They are currently .5 games back on the Rays.
Luckily, the injury riddled Yankees Have been struggling, even falling into last place. Of late however, the Yanks and Rays have been playing better baseball than the Red Sox
I guess Red Sox just nation has to cheer a little bit louder… everywhere
