So, as baseball season is coming to a close (for some fans .. such as I – O’s fan) men across the country are giddy like little school children that it is FINALLY football season. Even though football season never really ends with the crazy off season, we all get soo excited and have soo much hope for our teams each and every year.
The Baltimore Ravens, my hometown team, is off to a 2-0 start after 3 weeks, are looking like a surprise. Sure I had expected about 6-7 wins this season with so many questions, but with our rookie QB looking poised enough to lead us to 2 division wins – you can’t help but to wonder. With Boller “our experienced” quarterback is out for the year, and Troy Smith our talented QB out with illnesses, it did not look pretty, but Flacco has played JUST well enough to keep us in ballgames and for us to pick up the W’s.
Ray Rice is definitely looking like he has ALOT of potential to be a premiere back. Yes, he fumbled the ball in week 1, and had a fumble called back in week 3, but he looks impressive. Accompanied by Willis McGahee and LeRon McClain, and with Lorenzo Neal leading the way, this could be a very good running game for our Offense. For our passing game, Flacco has got a cannon and is playing it cool so far, and having Clayton back this year, Demetrius Williams looking like he might be a surprise, and Heap finally healthy this offense could finally give Baltimore something to be proud of. For our defense, well do I even need to say anything? Same ol D as pretty much every year. The Ravens have built such a good foundation on defense that again we will have one of hte top defenses in the league.
Sure I am getting ahead of myself slightly, but you can not help but to be excited with how well our defense has played against two offenses that are supposed to be very talented. Week 4 against our hated rivals, the Steelers, is the true test. If Flacco can minimize his mistakes – The Ravens could easily take control for a third straight week. The Steelers are already battered and bruised this season. Big Ben is playing a little hurt, Willie Parker is out, and DT Dan Hampton who is very talented will also help. This will be good for our D who will have 1 weapon gone and 1 injured. For our offense, having Hampton out will definitely help the running game which can help open up the passing for Flacco, Mason, Clayton, Heap.
If the Ravens win against Pittsburgh, by week 10 going to Houston the Ravens could very easily be a 7-2 team and looking for a division title for the second time in three years.
Other teams around the league:
Arizona is a legit contender for the lowly NFC West; If Seattle can not get their act together (what they might have done in Week 3 against the Rams) – this IS the Cardinals division.
Atlanta Falcons with super-stud Michael Turner running all over the place and Matt Ryan learning, Atlanta could very well contend with Tampa Bay for the NFC South.
WOW! when was the last time you heard Arizona AND Atlanta looking good?
The NFC North, could be a disappointing division. Lions are underachieving (if that is possible for them?), the Vikes are underachieving, the Bears are continually inconsistent, and that leaves the Packers to win the division again.
The NFC East, could possibly be the best division in the NFL right now, since the Colts and Jags are underachieving. Cowboys will choke in the playoffs .. but will win at least one playoff game. The giants will get a wild card sport, and the eagle will get the other making it to another super bowl led by McNabb and Westbrook. Sorry Redskins, Campbell is NOT the answer.
In the AFC East, The Bills are looking well but I can not see them contending like this all year round. The Patriots are very disappointing after a loss to the DOLPHINS
?! They will recover and continue to win the division, there are too many veterans and talented players on this team for it to be a embarrassing season. The dolphins are a 10+ game losing team and the Jets are a 6 – 8 win team. Yes, Favre is good, but the Jets are not.
In the AFC North. The Ravens and Steelers will battle it out for the division title which will come down to the end of the season.
In the AFC South, The Titans are a pretender right now, but will inch their way along to a playoff berth based on the Texans playing like well the Texans, the Jags struggling and the Colts struggling.
In The AFC West, the Raiders are welll the RAIDERs. The Chiefs might actually be worse than the Raiders, and that leaves the Chargers and the Broncos to compete for hte title. Turner has a history of destroying teams, so look for the Chargers to get a wild card and the Broncos to win yet another AFC West title.
